When Should You Book Your Newborn Photography Session?

When Should You Book Your Newborn Photography Session?

One of the most common questions I receive from expecting parents is, "When should I book my newborn session?" The answer often surprises them!

The best time to reserve your newborn photography session is during your second trimester or early in your third trimester. While it may seem early to think about newborn photos before your baby has even arrived, booking ahead ensures that a spot is available on my calendar around your due date.

Why Book Before Baby Arrives?

Newborn photography sessions are most successful when babies are between 5 and 20 days old. During this stage, babies tend to sleep more deeply, curl naturally into those adorable newborn poses, and are generally more comfortable being gently posed.

Because this window is so short, waiting until after delivery to schedule your session can make it difficult to find availability.

When you book your session before your baby arrives, I reserve a tentative date based on your due date. Once your little one makes their grand entrance, we'll finalize the exact session date.

What If My Baby Arrives Early or Late?

Don't worry—babies rarely arrive exactly on their due date!

When you book a newborn session with Kelly Saxon Photography, your due date is used as a placeholder on my calendar. Once your baby is born, we'll adjust the session date accordingly to ensure your little one is photographed during that ideal newborn stage.

What Is Included In A Newborn Session?

Every newborn session includes access to my carefully selected collection of wraps, headbands, bonnets, and props. My goal is to create timeless portraits that focus on your baby's tiny details and the incredible connection your family shares.

Depending on the collection you choose, sessions may include:

  • Baby-only portraits

  • Parent portraits

  • Sibling portraits

  • Multiple setups and prop options

  • Professionally edited digital images

Safety Is Always The Priority

As a double-certified newborn photographer, your baby's safety is my highest priority. Every pose, prop, and setup is carefully selected with your newborn's comfort and wellbeing in mind.

Newborn sessions are always baby-led. If your little one needs extra cuddles, feeding breaks, or time to settle, that's perfectly okay. Some of the sweetest moments happen in between the planned poses.
